Seven Springs
A cool valley, a narrow tunnel of spring water, and a small lake at the other end.
Epta Piges, Seven Springs, is a pocket of shade a few kilometres inland from Kolympia. Springs feed a stream under plane and pine trees, peacocks wander between the taverna tables, and it stays noticeably cooler than the coast.
The tunnel
In the 1930s the Italians dug a tunnel to carry the water down to the farmland around Kolympia. It's about 186 metres long, narrow and dark, with cold, ankle-deep water running through it. Walk it and you come out at a small lake in the woods.
Not keen on tight spaces? A path goes over the hill to the same lake.
Good to know
- Wear sandals or shoes you don't mind getting wet
- Use your phone torch in the tunnel
- Go mid-morning, before the coach tours
